  1. Awseome suggstion to improve lunch boxes during the summer. I can recall not eating during the summer month because my family lacked funds. Are there any free lunch programs in your community, links or websites?

    1. Byron,

In our local community, the summer feeding program through the school district began two years ago. It feeds children birth through 18 free of charge and parents for a minimal amount. The problem; however, is that in only runs through June, leaving kids to find other means of nourishment for the remaining of the summer. The Hunger Initiative program which is based at Baylor is working statewide to develop other programs to make sure no child goes hungry, either in the summer or anytime of the year.

  2. Hi, Julie, Summer lunches are a good point. I know when I send my son to the Y he always gets jealous of other kids' lunches--but they are mostly junk! First he wanted lunchables, then he wanted to see if I would buy something from a fast food restaurant. And frankly, it's hard to find something he WILL eat. But fortunately, he does like his fruits and veggies, so I try to pack those!
